AT-HOME CARE / SCALP & HAIR
Exploring a shorter hairstyle before hairline SMP.
The right starting point is the style you would comfortably wear in everyday life.

General education for everyday care and planning. For a fresh procedure, follow your practitioner’s individual aftercare instructions.
Try the hairstyle before choosing the design.
If you are curious about a close-cropped or shaved look, think about the haircut itself before committing to pigment. Talk with your barber about a gradual change in length and the upkeep it involves. At home, use grooming equipment only as directed, and avoid working over irritated or injured skin. You do not need to shave immediately just to ask about SMP.
Look at the whole face, not only the hairline.
When reviewing your style, step back from a magnifying mirror. Take an unfiltered front and side photograph in normal light. Consider how you want to look at work, on weekends and as your preferences change. A hairline that is very sharp in one close-up may feel different in a full portrait.
Save a small number of references and describe what you like: softness at the edge, the height of the design or how it meets the temples. These are conversation starters, not templates a practitioner must copy. Your own head shape, existing hair and future maintenance belong in the design discussion.
Understand what SMP adds.
As Cleveland Clinic: scalp micropigmentation explains, scalp micropigmentation uses pigment to imitate the appearance of follicles. It does not add hair length or texture. Our hairline SMP page focuses on a short or shaved-look design, which is a different plan from density through longer hair.
Ask what haircut would best support the proposed effect and how frequently you would want to maintain it. Discuss what happens if you later choose a longer style or your hair pattern changes.
Plan grooming after treatment with the practitioner.
Fresh SMP is not the moment to test a new shaver, scalp scrub or concealer. Ask when to resume your particular grooming tools and products, and follow the written aftercare you receive. The answer should relate to your treatment and healing.
For the best design for your goals, speak with our Calgary SMP professional. Bring your preferred haircut, reference photographs and questions about maintenance before selecting a date.
