AT-HOME CARE / SCALP & HAIR
SMP at home? Start with scalp care and informed choices.
There are useful things to do at home before deciding whether a scalp tattoo fits your goals.

General education for everyday care and planning. For a fresh procedure, follow your practitioner’s individual aftercare instructions.
Start with the outcome you mean.
“More hair” can describe several different wishes: a less visible part, the appearance of a shaved hairline, coverage around a scar, or actual regrowth. Cleveland Clinic: scalp micropigmentation explains that scalp micropigmentation places pigment to create a visual effect; it does not grow hair. That distinction matters when comparing products, medical care and cosmetic appointments.
Use home time to understand your preferences.
Take a few ordinary photographs with your hair worn as usual, including the front, crown and any area you want to discuss. Note whether you prefer a short style or want to keep your current length. Bring examples of looks you like, but explain the feature that appeals to you rather than asking for an identical copy of another person’s result.
If you use removable scalp concealer, follow the product label and tell the practitioner before assessment. Ask whether to arrive with the scalp free of it. Do not use a cosmetic cover-up to hide an irritated area from an assessment. If hair loss is new, sudden or unexplained, a healthcare professional should assess the cause before you choose cosmetic coverage.
Why this is not a DIY tattoo guide.
SMP involves skin penetration, design and colour decisions. Alberta Health Services: tattoo and permanent makeup safety describes infection-prevention measures and written aftercare as important parts of tattoo and permanent makeup services. An online kit is not a substitute for a practitioner’s training, assessment or controlled working environment. Do not tattoo your own scalp.
Make aftercare specific to your appointment.
Once treatment is booked, ask for written directions covering washing, exercise, sun exposure, products and when to contact the clinic. Do not borrow a recovery timetable from a different procedure or another person’s social post.
For the best approach to your preferred look, speak with Tylor at Wholesome Empire. Our complete SMP guide connects hairline, density and scar options so your consultation starts with the right questions.
