SKIN / SCARS & STRETCH MARKS
Scar & Stretch Mark Revision in Calgary: What Are Your Treatment Options?
Scars and stretch marks tell a story, but that doesn't mean you have to love how they look or feel.
Your skin, your choice.
Whether you've experienced changes in your skin from pregnancy, growth, weight fluctuations, surgery, or an injury, it's natural to wonder if there's anything you can do to improve their appearance.
The good news? There are non-surgical treatment options designed to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks, including approaches that do not use lasers. Needling and tattoo procedures still involve breaking the skin and require careful assessment and aftercare.
At Wholesome Empire in Calgary, we specialize in advanced scar and stretch mark restoration, combining paramedical techniques with a personalized approach to skin health.
Our philosophy is simple: your skin doesn't need to be perfect to be beautiful. But if there's something you'd like to improve, we're here to help you explore your options.
Can Scars and Stretch Marks Actually Be Improved?
Yes, their appearance may be improved with an appropriate treatment plan. Scars and stretch marks cannot be guaranteed to disappear completely, and the degree of improvement varies.
Stretch marks are a form of scarring that develops when the skin stretches or changes rapidly, disrupting the collagen and elastin within the dermis.
Over time, they may become lighter, textured, indented, or more noticeable against the surrounding skin.
Similarly, scars from surgery, acne, injuries, or other causes can leave changes in skin texture, colour, and overall appearance.
Depending on your skin and the type of scarring, treatments may focus on:
- Improving the appearance of uneven texture and indentations
- Supporting the skin's natural collagen-remodeling process
- Reducing the visibility of scars and stretch marks
- Improving the appearance of uneven pigmentation
- Helping treated areas blend more naturally with surrounding skin
The key is understanding that not all scars and stretch marks require the same treatment.
Does “stretch mark removal” mean complete removal?
If you are searching for stretch mark removal in Calgary, it helps to separate the search phrase from the treatment goal. The aim is a less noticeable appearance, not a promise to erase every mark. The American Academy of Dermatology explains that stretch marks are permanent scars, although treatment may make them less noticeable.
What Is Inkless Scar and Stretch Mark Revision?
Inkless revision is a specialized skin treatment that uses controlled needling techniques with the aim of encouraging the body's natural healing and skin-remodelling response.
Unlike traditional camouflage tattooing, inkless revision does not rely on implanting skin-coloured pigment.
Instead, the focus is on the appearance of the skin's tone and texture over time, with an individual response to treatment.
At Wholesome Empire, we use professional equipment and individualized treatment protocols based on the condition of your skin, the area being treated, and your restoration goals.
Inkless revision may be considered for:
- White or mature stretch marks; newer red marks need individual assessment
- Textured or indented stretch marks
- Certain surgical scars
- Some acne scars
- Scars from injuries or previous procedures
Because we are working with the skin's natural healing response, any improvements develop gradually rather than immediately.
Is inkless revision the same as microneedling?
The terms can sound similar because both involve needles. Equipment, technique, products and treatment targets may differ. Ask exactly what is proposed for your skin instead of assuming that evidence for one procedure proves the results of another. Our inkless scar revision page explains the consultation pathway; our broader scar and stretch mark services help you explore the options together.
What Is Scar Camouflage?
Scar camouflage is a paramedical tattooing technique that uses carefully selected pigments to help reduce the visual contrast between a scar and the surrounding skin.
This approach is different from inkless revision.
While inkless revision primarily focuses on skin remodelling, camouflage focuses on the appearance of colour differences.
For example, a mature, lighter-coloured surgical scar may stand out against the surrounding skin. Camouflage may help the area appear more uniform by introducing pigment that more closely resembles the surrounding skin tone.
However, not every scar is suitable for camouflage. Scar maturity, texture, pigmentation, skin tone, and the likelihood of future colour changes must all be considered. Some treatment plans use inkless revision alone, without adding camouflage pigment.
In some cases, we may recommend revision first, camouflage later, or a combination of techniques, with the next step decided after reassessment.
Scar camouflage tattooing changes colour contrast; it does not remove the scar or make an indentation flat. Pigment and surrounding skin can change differently over time, so colour matching, sun exposure and possible future maintenance belong in the consultation.
Which Treatment Is Better: Inkless Revision or Camouflage?
Neither technique is automatically better. They simply serve different purposes.
Inkless revision may be more appropriate when the primary concern is texture, indentation, or the overall appearance of scarred skin.
Scar camouflage may be more appropriate when the skin is mature and relatively stable, but the main concern is a visible difference in colour.
For clients experiencing both texture and pigmentation concerns, a staged approach may be recommended.
At Wholesome Empire, we assess your skin before recommending a procedure plan. We believe treatment should be selected based on what your skin actually needs, rather than offering the same service to everyone.
What about laser treatment or medical scar care?
Inkless revision and camouflage are not the only options. A dermatologist can discuss medical scar care and whether laser or other procedures suit your particular scar. There is no single treatment that fits every person. If you are comparing approaches, our guide to choosing a scar treatment offers questions to take to a consultation.
Can You Treat Old, White Stretch Marks?
Absolutely worth exploring!
One of the most common questions we hear is whether old, white stretch marks can still be treated.
White stretch marks, also known as striae alba, are mature stretch marks that have typically lost much of their original red or purple colouring.
Although they may have been present for years, their age or colour alone does not necessarily rule out treatment.
Depending on their depth, texture, location, and your skin's healing characteristics, inkless revision may be an option to help improve their appearance.
It is important to understand that mature stretch marks can respond differently from newer stretch marks, and no specific level of improvement can be guaranteed.
A consultation for stretch mark treatment in Calgary starts with what bothers you most: colour, texture or both. Newer red or purple marks are not automatically ready for the same plan as stable white marks. Bring up any recent changes before booking a procedure.
How Many Scar or Stretch Mark Revision Sessions Will I Need?
Skin restoration is a process, not an overnight transformation.
At Wholesome Empire, treatment plans are customized based on the severity, depth, size, and characteristics of the areas being treated.
As a general planning guide:
- Mild concerns: Approximately 2-4 sessions
- Moderate concerns: Approximately 3-5 sessions
- Deeper or more advanced scarring: Six or more sessions may be discussed after assessment
These are estimates rather than guaranteed treatment requirements.
Sessions are commonly spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, depending on the treatment and how your skin is healing.
Each session is intended to build on the previous one, allowing the skin time to recover and remodel between appointments.
Some clients may notice changes earlier in their treatment journey, while others require additional time and sessions before visible improvements develop.
These are Wholesome Empire’s planning estimates, not a universal schedule. Healing can mean waiting longer or adjusting the plan. At follow-up, the useful question is how your own skin has responded, rather than whether it matches someone else’s session count.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Scar and stretch mark restoration can be considered for many areas of the body, including:
- Abdomen and stomach
- Hips and flanks
- Thighs and legs
- Glutes
- Breasts and chest
- Arms and underarms
- Certain facial scars
- Surgical scars, including some C-section and breast surgery scars
- Acne scars
Not every area or scar is suitable for every technique. Your consultation allows us to assess your skin and determine the most appropriate approach.
After pregnancy, surgery or changes in weight
A C-section scar, marks after pregnancy and stretch marks from growth or weight changes can raise different questions. Tell us when the changes happened, whether the area is fully healed and what you hope to improve. Our guides cover stretch marks after pregnancy, healed surgical scar consultations and stretch marks after fitness or weight changes. A cosmetic consultation does not replace care from your surgeon or medical provider.
What Is Recovery Like?
Recovery varies depending on the treatment, depth, area, and individual healing response. Plan for temporary skin changes and activity restrictions rather than assuming there will be no downtime.
Following inkless revision, temporary redness, sensitivity, swelling, or changes in skin appearance may occur as the area heals.
At Wholesome Empire, we provide individualized aftercare instructions to support the recovery process.
For many of our revision clients, this includes avoiding direct prolonged sun exposure to the treated area for approximately 20-30 days and limiting heavy sweating or vigorous activity for around 5–7 days.
Your exact aftercare instructions may differ depending on the procedure performed.
Healing is an essential part of the treatment process, and following your aftercare plan helps reduce unnecessary complications.
Plan around holidays, workouts and skin healing
Tell us about travel, swimming, sun exposure or an important event before choosing treatment dates. Your written aftercare plan takes priority over a general timeline. Ask when your specific area can return to usual skincare and activities.
Risks and when to seek medical advice
Needling can cause infection, additional scarring or lasting colour changes. Pigment procedures can also cause allergic reactions. A history of keloids or healing problems needs discussion before treatment. The AAD’s microneedling guidance and FDA tattoo safety information explain these risks. An open wound, active infection or a scar that is painful or changing should be medically assessed before a cosmetic procedure.
Do not try to reproduce professional revision or pigment placement at home. For gentle everyday care and questions to ask your practitioner, read our stretch mark home-care guide.
How Much Does Scar and Stretch Mark Treatment Cost in Calgary?
Your quote depends on the area, the concerns being addressed, the technique and the proposed course of treatment. A small isolated scar and extensive abdominal stretch marks need different assessments. We provide a personalized quote so you can understand the plan before deciding.
Ask what is included, when progress will be reviewed and whether additional sessions or maintenance could be needed. Visit Pricing & Payments to explore payment options and the existing financing calculator. Eligibility and terms apply; a consultation is the place to confirm the options for your own plan.
