Red light therapy at home: questions before buying a device.
A useful comparison starts with the device, the intended use and your own suitability.

General education for everyday care and planning. For a fresh procedure, follow your practitioner’s individual aftercare instructions.
Begin with one clearly defined goal.
A mask, a panel and a hair device may be marketed under the same broad “red light” label while having different intended uses. Write down the concern you actually want to discuss before comparing products. A claim made for one device or condition cannot automatically be applied to another.
Read beyond the promotional photograph.
The American Academy of Dermatology: red light therapy explains that research varies by device and study, results are not universal, and long-term questions remain. It recommends discussing suitability with a dermatologist, particularly when skin conditions or medicines affect light sensitivity.
Look for a complete manufacturer manual, the device’s intended use, clear contact details and realistic claims. Keep the model information if you want a professional opinion. A large collection of testimonials does not tell you whether the product fits your skin or the concern you have.
Use device-specific instructions, not a shared internet routine.
Follow the manufacturer’s directions, including the specified eye protection where required. Do not substitute sunglasses for protective goggles. Avoid increasing duration or combining devices because more light sounds more effective. The AAD guidance above makes clear that use instructions depend on the device.
If you have recently had a skin or cosmetic tattoo procedure, ask the treating practitioner before adding light treatments. Stop if you develop a concerning reaction and seek appropriate advice. This article does not prescribe a wavelength, dose or home-treatment schedule.
Compare the clinic option with the same questions.
Wholesome Empire offers red light therapy appointments in Calgary. Ask which device is used, why it is proposed for your goal, what limitations apply and how it fits with your other care. A clinic appointment is not a guarantee of a particular outcome, and we do not assume its equipment is equivalent to a device discussed in a study.
For the best plan for your goals, speak with our professionals before choosing a course of appointments. Bring the name of any home device you already use and keep medical treatment decisions with your healthcare professional.
