TREATMENT GUIDE

Revision or camouflage?
Start with the difference.

Understanding the goal of a technique makes it easier to decide what to ask at a consultation.

Colour and texture are different questions

A visible mark may differ from surrounding skin in texture, colour or both. Pigment camouflage primarily addresses colour contrast. An inkless revision conversation focuses on the clinic’s skin-treatment approach without skin-tone tattoo pigment.

An improvement is not the same as erasing a scar

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons explains that scar revision cannot completely erase a scar. This is a useful expectation to bring to any consultation. Read its scar revision overview.

Bring a useful set of questions

Ask why the proposed method fits your concern, what the limitations are, what risks apply, how the area should be assessed first, and when the outcome will be reviewed.

If the mark is raised, changing, unhealed or symptomatic, seek appropriate clinical assessment before deciding on cosmetic pigment or needling work.

Read photographs carefully

Compare the area, timing and lighting. A photograph taken while skin is still healing should not be treated as the final result. Ask for relevant healed examples and an explanation of how they relate to your concern.
